Koshti Ba Chokhe (Traditional Wrestling)

The traditional wrestling of North Khorasan (Koshti Ba Chokhe) was inscribed in the National Intangible Heritage List of Iran in 2009. Holding Koshti Ba Chokhe in Esfarayen is an original and historical tradition. Every year is April 2nd (or April 1st/3rd, 14th of Farvardin in Persian Calendar) the most famous and well-known wrestlers from around the country (and even other countires) come to Zen Al-khan Gowd (the wrestling place) in Esfarayen. Around 70,000 people (men, women, and children) gather to watch the competitions and listen to the traditional music of Dohol and Sorna (Ghoshme). In the next competitions, 268 wrestlers from 15 provinces are going to compete in 40 teams during one day in 5 different weights: 66, 74, 84, 95 and +95.

Adobe Architecture International Workshop

South Khorasan/ Birjand/ April 11th to 23rd

The second international workshop of “Adobe Architecture: Adobe Architecture and Earthquake”, titled IWEA2020 will be held from April 11th to April 23rd, 2020, in South Khorasan. The first international workshop of adobe architecture was held in Yazd City, last year. South Khorasan is one of the vastest and oldest provinces of Iran and its adobe architecture heritage, observable in cities and villages of Birjand, Tabas, Toon, Ferdows, Khosf, Khor, Boshrooye, Asfahak, etc. is unique and well-known.

Special Meeting for the Day of Historic Buildings and Sites

Khuzestan/ Ahwaz April/ 17th

Level: National

This global ceremony would be held beside the most important historic monument of Sush World Heritage Site and Apadana Complex. Native games of Khuzestan, traditional music, Arabic and Bakhtiari music, poem reading, playing Ney (an end blown flute) and cultural heritage-related movies are among the programs of this event.

Salt Statues National Festival

South Khorasan/ Nehbandan, Kaji Pond/ March and April

Level: National

The National Festival of Salt Statues would be held in Kaji Pond in Nehbandan and several artists from South Khorasan and other provinces will attend it. Kaji Pond is 75 km away from Nehbandan and is near the road to Birjand. Despite two years of drought in the region, the pond is still alive and is home to several water birds. The soil of this region is extremely salty and is similar to a white, salty lake.

Joint Action Festival

Sistan & Baloochestan/ Chabahar, Hamoon City/ March and April

Level: International

This is the first time that this event is going to be held in Sistan & Baloochestan Province. Such festivals in the area of tourism, handicrafts and traditions can introduce the common origins and capacities of this province and neighboring countries.

The 2nd National Photo Festival of Immanent Heritage of South Khorasan

Level: National

The National Festival of Immanent Heritage of South Khorasan would be held at the presence of a huge number of photographers. The photographers must send their photographs to the secretariat of the festival. Then, top photographs would be selected and presented in an exhibition with the same name.

The 4th National Congress of Architecture and Urbanization

Level: National

The National Congress of Architecture and Urbanization will be held in various countries and then a final congress would be held nationally. This congress includes topics such as natural-cultural areas, historic cities and villages, cultural landscapes and historical urban landscapes, structure in architecture and urbanization history, architecture and urbanization archeology, modern architecture and urbanization heritage, water and agriculture heritage, intangible cultural heritage and cultural routes, etc. The output of this congress would be presented as books in the field of historic, natural and cultural heritages in order to introduce these heritages in a national as well as international scale.

Saadi Shirazi Day

Fars/ Saadi Shirazi Day/ Saadieh/ April 20th

Saadi Day is celebrated annually beside the temple of this great poet and many authorities gather to pay their respect to him. There are also academic meetings at the presence of researchers and lovers of this unique poet in the Culture Hall at Fars National Library. In addition, an exhibition about photos and documents related to Saadi is held and books, postal cards, and magazines, are published. Reading his poems, stories and calligraphy are among the programs of Saadi Day in his tomb.

International ECO-Silk Road Food Festival

Zanjan/ Caspian International Exhibition Center, Zanjan / April 20th

International ECO-Silk Road Food Festival is celebrated annually at the presence of foreign ambassadors and diplomats, representatives from ECO and chefs from EXO-Silk Road countries. In this international festival, the chefs from ECO-Silk Road countries cook their native foods during a 4-day celebration.

National Persian Gulf Day

This conference is a celebration of Persian Gulf National Day and the anniversary of Portuguese departure from Hormoz Island during Safavid period. This cultural, touristic and economic festival is held at the presence of domestic and foreign academics, researchers and thinkers on various topics inducing culture, art and architecture, tourism in international interactions, opportunities and challenges, novel ideas for presenting tourist attractions, strategies and investment opportunities, tourists safety and rights, the region’s capabilities in cultural tourism, ecotourism, and health tourism, and sustainable development of tourism in Persian Gulf coasts.
